i dont see how the core classes can get cut. id suspect that the classes that do get cut will have some of their abilities added to the existing classes. such as paragon shouts going to warrior and spear chucking going to something else.

i'm betting the core 6 will stay, and the new 4 are gone, which i think would fix balance issues. Rts, paragons, dervs, and assassins have been some of the biggest issues for balance

You speak as if the skills will be exactly the same in GW2. The reason the 4 professions have been troublesome skill wise is because they were added AFTER the core professions. If all of the professions are added together, with new skills, there should be little to no problem.

I'm going to have to agree with the above poster.

Your idea would probably make this game much better than it is now (mind you, that it's already a good game )

IMO they should keep all the Profession, the game takes place in the future no reason why all the different people/races can't come together to destroy Evil, if they start with the core profession then it only looks like reboot with a story that takes place in the future, IMO they should have allow us to go to Certain areas in Elona and Cantha also explain why we can't travel to the other parts, for example we would only be able to travel to Maatu Keep because of the heavy fighting between Kurc/Lux no one can enter those areas, in Elona it would stop at the Crossroads because Palawa Joko has taken control and no one can enter, I don't want a reboot GW i want them to give us the ability to go to all the areas we have been to in Part 1, GW2 first expansion should take us to a NEW land with dangerous creatures and new professions....................this is my opinion on what i would do, IMO if it looks like they are doing a Reboot then I won't be playing GW series anymore.

It's not too hard to figure out,99% of MMO's has those class

Thief/Rogue/Bandit type class; Assassin
Hunter/Archer type class; Ranger
Healer type class; Monk
Warrior type class; Warrior
Warlock/Death type class; Necromancer

So im pretty sure those class will stay,I really hope they will keep Ritualist & Mesmer, which are 2 rare class we see and MMO's,
Dervish IMO can leave,as they are basically Warriors that sacrifice there enchants for some health -_-

I'm pretty sure this thread was intended to "guess" who would be chopped, not who YOU wanted to be chopped...ie Assassins are present in every game nowadays, mostly called "rogues" or "rouges"(eww crap spelling) of course. And Dervishes or Ritualists are fairly popular, especially the former. I think honestly paragons or maybe mesmers will get cut...

Without Assassins in GuildWars 2, I'd never buy GW2.
Assassins are the only professions who has nice animated and intriguing & interesting moves in most MMO's, besides mages aka Elementalist.
Sadly the Elementalists' animation moves are very crappy in GW1...

and as for the chop...
Mesmers, Dervishes, and Paragons be gone!

from my biased pvp outlook:

assassins are just the bane of everything GW stood for, and the direction they are taking them in is not helping.

dervish are not necessary and only have the use of OP crap like wounding strike and mel derv, and not to mention their base damage. other than that, theyre useless except in niche enchantment builds like OoP.

Paragons at least have more concept behind them, however the fact that they can turret for amazing dps, as well as provide party support was a bad idea from the start. because of this, they can keep a tactical position while still dishing out deep wound (and to a lesser extent bleed and cripple) from afar. they should either be good at one or the other.

ritualists are a good concept, just executed poorly. their heals are decent, their damage is (now) decent, but they just cant do much. their skills have been nerfed so much theres nothing left but mediocre skills and the essential skills (actually come to think of it, it has always been that way).

personally i would not be sad to see mesmers and necros be combined into a sort of hex monster - with attributes like anti-melee, anti-cast with more compressed skills like sum of all fears.

either way i dont think mesmers will get thrown out; they were just a pvp oriented character from the start.

-Assassins should be in GW2 but completely redesigned. in GW1 they need to completely nerf sin damage, but buff sin utility.

-Problem with Dervish isn't so much OP'ness as it is "Not exactly different" Which is why I bet they get the chop. A dervish is basically a Wammo that isn't fail. Their skills can be divided amoungst warriors, rangers, and monks easily.

-According to what izzy stated, mesmers are his favorite class. ( we can infer from this that mesmers are not getting the chop )

I hope they come up with something new, rather than recycling old classes...

ffs...
nerf=/=anet dislikes the profession, nerf=a skill in one of the profession's attribute lines was overpowered
buff=/=anet likes the profession, buff=a skill in one of the profession's attribute lines was underpowered.
honestly...

also, on topic-
all i want in gw2 is:
a melee dmg class that is brave and strong and makes up the teams frontline
a ranged physical class that can disrupt and pressure the other team and is very good at staying alive
a caster class that can shutdown/punish the other team with hexes and such
a caster class that can provide offensive and defensive support
a caster class that keeps the team alive

hmm...
those classes sound familiar...

i think making an entirely new game is the perfect oppurtunity to balance out all the classes. theyre not just porting the same game to a new graphics engine..

If it wasn't going to be an entirely new game, they would just add another expansion/Campaign to what we have now. imho.

I hope they keep them all but just implement them better.

To comment on individual classes is overly subjective imo.

Exactly, the mesmer could easily stay but be more of a force in pve without hurting pvp. Imagine a class that could brainwash baddies into walking off a cliff or to beat down their comrades.

Frankly, I hope they mash together the Warrior and Paragon into a melee tank that uses the para's shouts instead of attacks to be affective, ya know, a defensive unit that doesn't confuse idiots into thinking they are invulnerable blenders on wheels

as mentioned, gw2 is an opportunity to 'go back to the drawing board' so to speak with the various professions. they can look at what worked, and what didnt and hopefully produce better results.

and i think having to come up with 2 new professions with each new campaign did not produce optimal results in gw1. i dont think professions should remain (unchanged) out of sentimentality, when they have a chance to make them better overall.

Anet should just merge the classes into 3 classes and work to branch out from there

W/P/D form the 3 classes that are defensive or tanks into one and maybe branch a little from them

R/A just put them together and call it a hunter with the base abiltiies of a ranger and assassin toned down a bit

E/Me/Mo/Rt/N putting them together into one is a bad idea but just making them into about 3 classes would make a pure healer, pure debuffer, and a pure damage dealers so you cant make an invincible person

there would be problems but this would allow them to start by observing what players really need instead of handing great players more tools to kill or become invincible somehow in just a few seconds of playing GW2,which is probably not what anet wants for GW2
